A UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) is a tag added at the end of a URL address after a question mark. The configuration of UTM parameters allows you to collect information about the overall performance of your email, its brief, or email fragment throughout various media channels and platforms.

Adding UTM parameters to your URL links allows you to:

  • Track the performance of your marketing campaigns more accurately, taking into account the traffic stats.

  • Get more detailed analytics that helps you understand your audience better and drive your marketing strategies accordingly.

  • Create customized reports on specific marketing activities.

  • Improve your return on investment (ROI) for more efficient decision-making and resource allocation.

You can activate and configure UTM parameters only for the URL link type. To do this:

1. Select a component on the item layout.

2. On the Properties tab, click Link.

In the Edit link pop-up that appears, the URL link type is selected by default.

Select the link subtype if the field is available to you. To configure the set of default values for the Protocol and Website URL fields according to the selected link subtype, contact the administrator.

3. Set the required protocol: HTTPS, HTTP, or FTP.

4. Enter the target URL address.

The UTM parameters checkbox is selected by default. You can clear it if you don't want to add tags after the URL address.

5. Configure the UTM parameter values.

UTM source

Use to track the traffic origin and answer the question where your target audiences come from. This is generally the name of the platform (website), email service, or any other specific source you're using to refer your audiences to your URL.
For example, broadcast-email, newsletter, outlook.

The list of values in the UTM source drop-down depends on your eWizard Editor configuration. You just select the required option from the list.

UTM medium

Use to track the marketing channel you're using to refer your target audiences to your URL. This UTM parameter provides the answer to the question how your target audiences get to your URL.
For example, email, social, cps.

The list of values in the UTM medium drop-down depends on your eWizard Editor configuration. The default value is email, but you can select any other option from the list.

UTM campaign

Use to track the effectiveness of your campaign.

UTM campaign is a multiple-value parameter. It consists of values stated in the custom fields, for example, Date, Campaign title, and Country code.

UTM content

This field is automatically filled with the merge tag generated by eWizard.

This merge tag has the format supported by the selected target system. When your email with merge tags is being sent, the target system substitutes them with the respective values. You can edit the UTM content parameter.

UTM term

This is an optional parameter and is empty by default.

You can enter here the campaign keywords to draw traffic to your URL.

The fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.

Contact your administrator to configure the dependency of the Website URL value on the UTM or URL parameters.

If you insert the website URL that already contains UTM and URL parameters, their values automatically complete the dedicated fields. Changing the inserted URL address with UTM parameters updates UTM parameter values and the generated URL.

Generated URL is a link based on the website URL address and UTM parameter values. The link is automatically updated once you change the website URL or any UTM parameter value. Having set the required UTM parameters, you can copy the generated link with the Copy button.

6. Save changes.
