Provide proofs for information stated in your item with references

To specify the source of information stated in eWizard items, add references to the text components. You can access references in the References pop-up. On the layout, the selected text contains only superscript symbols as the reference indication.

To apply references to your item, create them in the configuration pop-up. Then, add created references to the required text component.

Creating a reference

To create a reference:

1. Add the text component to the layout or select the existing one.

2. Go to the Properties tab and click R.

3. In the References pop-up, use the following buttons:

  • + ADD NEW: Enter the reference text manually and click the check mark.

  • ADD FROM VAULT: Select a Veeva Vault reference in the Assets pop-up and click ADD.

The newly added reference appears at the end of the numbered list. To change the order of the references, drag them to the required position in the list.

[1]: To edit the reference, click the pencil button in its row.

[2]: To delete the reference, click the bin button in its row.

4. Click SAVE

When editing the reference, you can do the following:

  • Change the font family, weight, size, and color.

  • Set the line height and highlight.

  • Apply the font styles and alignment.

Adding external resources to references

While editing, you can add external resources to the references with the following options:

View and edit the HTML code of the reference

Make sure you use the correct HTML syntax in the modified code. Click the Code view button again to exit the HTML editor.

Add a PDF to the reference

Select the text fragment and click Attach. In the Assets pop-up, choose the required document. You can add only one PDF per reference. Available for e-Detailers and their briefs.

Add a link to the reference text

Select the text fragment and click Link. In the Edit link pop-up, choose the Link type and fill in the required fields.

Delete the link

Select the link text or put the cursor near it and click Unlink.

Reference indication on the item layout

To add references to your item text:

  1. Place the mouse cursor in the required place of your text.

  2. Click R on the Properties tab.

  3. 2. In the configuration pop-up, select the checkboxes of the required references.

  4. 3. Click SAVE to apply changes.

The superscript reference indicators appear in the text where you've placed the mouse cursor.

To check the references added to the text components, open the configuration pop-up.

e-Detailers, their briefs, and modules

  • In the item EDIT mode, select the reference indicators on the layout and click R on the Properties tab.

  • In the item PREVIEW mode, click R at the bottom of the slide.

Add the REFERENCES component to the item layout. The component contains the list of the references previously selected for display in the References pop-up.

Indicator properties

In e-Detailers and their briefs, you can set up the resulting appearance and behaviour for the reference indicators on the slide. For this:

1. Turn on the Master template toggle.

2. Open the Tree tab.

3. Click References.

4. Go to the Properties tab on the customization panel.

You can set the following properties:

  • COMPONENT NAME: Rename the References component. Your changes appear on the Tree tab immediately.

  • TYPE:

  1. Select the Slide notes type to show the reference number relative to the references on a slide.

  2. Select the e-Detailer notes type to show the reference number relative to the list of all references in the e-Detailer. Once you choose this option, the VISIBILITY field becomes available.

  • DELIMITER: Set commas or brackets to separate the reference indicators.

  • RANGE DELIMITER: Choose the hyphen -, en dash ⁠–, or em dash β€” to separate the consecutive numbers.

  • Merge consecutive numbers: Selected by default. This option displays the consecutive numbers with a range delimiter between the first and last consecutive values (for example, 1–3). Deselect the checkbox to display all consecutive numbers in order (for example, 1, 2, 3).

  • NUMBER FORMAT: Set numbers, letters, or asterisks as reference indicators on the slide.

  • VISIBILITY: Available with the e-Detailer notes type selected. Choose whether to display the REFERENCES button only on slides with references or on all slides.

Pop-up properties

In e-Detailers and their briefs, you can customize the styles and properties of the references pop-up. For this:

1. Turn on the Master template toggle.

2. Open the Tree tab.

3. Unfold References.

4. Select the Pop-up component.

5. Go to the Properties tab.

Here, you can do the following:

  • ELEMENT TYPE: Assign the element type to classify the component in Veeva Vault.

  • COMPONENT NAME: Rename the References pop-up component. Your changes appear on the Tree tab immediately.

  • NAME: Change the pop-up header with the WYSIWYG editor or browse for the required text in the Assets pop-up. Click the pop-up header to change its font and color. To improve the visibility of the pop-up header in the text input area, switch on the Dark background toggle.

  • Open by tap references: Selected by default. You can view the pop-up by clicking the reference number in the text. Clear the checkbox to prevent the pop-up appearing on click.

  • Show close button: Selected by default. Show/hide the close button.

  • CLOSE BUTTON ICON: Browse for a custom close button icon in the Assets pop-up.

  • ICON POSITION: Set the required position of the button close icon within the pop-up.

  • Show on slide enter: Cleared by default. Select the checkbox for the pop-up to appear when you open the slide with a reference.

  • Close on outside tap: Selected by default. This is the additional option to close the References pop-up when presenting the e-Detailer. With it, you close the References pop-up, tapping the slide anywhere outside the pop-up. Clear the checkbox to close the References pop-up with the close button only.

  • Show overlay: Selected by default. It grays out the slide area behind the References pop-up. Clear the checkbox to keep the slide area behind the pop-up unchanged.

To customize the size, position, background color, and border of the pop-up, go to the Styling tab.
